1958年 東京生まれ。中央大学経済学部在学時にギター制作の専門学校の存在を知りギター制作家になることを決意する。1981年 大学を卒業後 Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery （アメリカ合衆国アリゾナ州）入学。同年卒業。帰国後、モーリス楽器製造株式会社に入社。アーティストモデルや高級注文品の制作、新製品の開発に携わる。1982年 東京都八王子市に 「Shimoguitars シモギターズ」を設立。ハンドメイドのアコースティックギターやエレキギターの制作と販売を始める。材料の選定から制作・販売までを一人で成す Luthier（ルシアー）の先駆者であり、伝統的なスタイルのものはもちろん“誰も見たことがない楽器”を世に送り出している。1992年よりギター制作と並行してウクレレの制作も開始する。ウクレレは 「シモレレ」の愛称で親しまれ大変人気があり、オーダーから完成まで数年待ちになっている。

Born in 1958 in Tokyo. While studying at Chuo University School of Economics, Shimo learned about a guitar-making vocational school and decides to pursue a guitar maker.He started studying at the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery ( Arizona, USA ) after graduating from Chuo University in 1981. Upon graduating, Shimo returned to Japan to join Morris Musical Instrument Manufacturing Company to oversee building high-end custom and artist models and the development of new products. In 1982, Shimo established “Shimoguitars” in Hachioji, Tokyo. He began building and selling handcrafted acoustic guitars and electric guitars. Shimo is truly a master craftsman and a pioneer of Japanese luthier handling everything from material selection to production and sales. He has built not only traditional-style instruments but strives to construct “instruments no one has ever laid an eye on.” In 1992, Shimo started building ukuleles along with guitars. Due to popular demand, his ukulele gained the nickname Shimolele with a waiting time of several years from order to completion.
